The town of Rockport belongs to Essex County, MA. It is located 40 miles northeast of Boston on the tip of the Cape Ann peninsula. While it’s mostly surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Gloucester lies directly to the east of Rockport. The town itself occupies an area of roughly 17 square miles and almost 11 of those miles are water! Three islands off the coast of Rockport are also part of the town, and they are Thacher Island, Milk Island, and Straitsmouth Island. A recent census puts the town population at just about 7,000 people.
